City College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC), and a certified Postsecondary Minority-Serving Institution. City College’s Military Education program is a certified NAVSEA Seaport –e vendor.

GMATS Students Honor the USCG on its 221st Birthday

To honor the U.S. Coast Guard on its 221^st Birthday the students from GMATS marched down to sing “Happy Birthday” to BMC Adam Noorigian, USCG(OIC) in front of the USCG Station. This is the second annual tribute to the USCG by Navy Students attending GMATS.

Coast Guard Changes Training Requirements for Mate-OICNW

How this will affect the Mariner and Training.

As of July 1, 2011, the National Maritime Center announced the Coast Guard has eliminated certain training requirements for 500/1600 and 3rd Mate licenses. Policy Letter 11-07, announced in the Federal Register cancelled the qualification provisions of Policy Letter 01-02 and 16-02.

Legacy of Excellence

Continuing Education for professionals in the maritime industry began at Kings Point in the 1960’s with the Nuclear Ship Savannah Project. At the time, engineers assigned to the Savannah received specialized nuclear engineering training at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
