Selected Reserves
As the nation’s largest single source of Navy Reserve officers since WWII, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is well suited to the task of Navy Reserve training. Training and re-training is essential if Navy Reservists are to be able to perform their crucial roles during times of re-call. GMATS has trained over 5,000 Navy Reservists in over 50 rate training and officer courses in the past 6 years. We are a NETC Non-Traditional Training Site and most of out courses are listed in CANTRAC. Most programs offered by GMATS can be developed as a one or two-week course, or, spread over a number of weekends over several months.
Mission
One of the top missions of the Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) is to offer leading edge education and training programs that will benefit U.S. Navy sailors from all pay grades and ratings to develop a variety of skills needed in the fleet and ashore commands.

Through GMATS education, training and cadre of seasoned Navy instructors, we stand ready to provide a dynamic, quality fleet and ashore programs to assist sailors in preparing for Navy-wide advancement examination while enhancing their level of professional knowledge.
